ABOUT ME
I am Greg Stevens, principal of Purple Cow Career and Talent Development, LLC. I have found my calling in empowering individuals to navigate their professional journeys with confidence and creativity. Guided by a belief in the transformative power of lifelong learning and a commitment to meaningful engagement, my work is driven by a passion to facilitate growth, both for individuals and organizations.
With an extensive background as a career coach, educator, and program director, I bring a unique blend of expertise to the table. My specialties include career coaching, program development and curriculum design, teaching and facilitation on various platforms, and writing and editing with a focus on career themes. These skills are complemented by my ability to forge robust relationships and collaborative partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
My career highlights reflect a dedication to excellence and innovation. Notably, I have provided over 1,800 professional coaching hours to more than 200 clients, helping them to achieve their career aspirations. From 2018-2023 at Seton Hall University, I directed a graduate program focused on preparing students for careers in museums, with emphasis on building core competencies and generalist/specialist skills. I also served as associate director of the McBride Leadership Center/Buccino Leadership Institute. Previously at the American Alliance of Museums from 2007-2017, I directed a professional development program focused on leadership, management, and career development that saw a 2,900% increase in participation, reaching over 40,000 colleagues and 2,500 institutions. I am proud to have co-edited (with Wendy Luke) A Life in Museums: Managing Your Museum Career (2012, The AAM Press), and co-edited (with Lotte Lent) Museum Change Agents Making the World a Better Place (2024, The George Washington University). I have written numerous articles and book chapters on careers, and frequently facilitate seminars and workshops on career topics. My forthcoming career handbook, set to be published by Rowman & Littlefield in 2026, encapsulates my insights and strategies for career advancement in the cultural sector.
I am committed to leveraging my extensive experience to assist individuals and organizations in realizing their full potential. Whether through one-on-one coaching, developing engaging and impactful programs, or facilitating workshops that inspire and inform, my goal is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of professionals and the cultural institutions they serve. Let’s connect and explore how we can work together to achieve your career or organizational objectives. I look forward to hearing from you and to helping you stand out in the field!
